1)What Is Simming?
Simming is a type of game, saying "Let's Pretend!" and then acting out a specific part. Each person created a biography for their character and they must act within the bounds of that biography.

Simming was originally developed for IRC-style gaming, but was then transitioned into E-mail for ease of use. People wanted flexibility, and e-mail simming gave it to them. IRC sims still exist today, but tie you down to a computer one or two times each week.

2)General Rules
This simulation has some rules, but has fewer rules than most IRC Simulations. They are pretty basic and are for order.

You MUST post a log once each 7 days! If you do not post in 7 consecutive days, you are warned and given three days to reply and post. If you do not rectify the matter within the given three days you are warned a second time and loose posting points. If this becomes repetitive, you will be removed from the simulation.

Any information sent over the e-mail lists used for the simulation becomes the sole property of the Exploration Fleet and respective organizations. The sender, however, accepts full responsibility for the affects of the given material.

Any biographies, posts, etc. sent to any GM/AGM of the simulation becomes the property of the Exploration Fleet as well. Biographies posted to the bio page become the property of the Exploration Fleet.

3)Posting Procedures
We have some set procedures to follow when you post. Some of these procedures need to be followed in order for your post to be understood.

When you post you need to include a header. The header needs to include your rank, name, position, and stardate posted. If you are Lt. Junior Grade Erin Reynolds, Chief Medical Officer, and you are posting June 13, 1999 the header is as follows:

Lt. J. G. Erin Reynolds
Chief Medical Officer
Stardate 9906.13

Stardates are computed by YYMM.DD. So June 13, 1999, or 06/13/99, translates into Stardate 9906.13.

When you post, you may change the plot somewhat. Just don't blow up the ship! We want you to have some freedom, but we also have somewhat of a plan as well. We try not to void posts, but we will if the need arises. It doesn’t happen very often; excitement in simming keeps the sim going!

4)Points
Points are an important part of a simulation. They help determine who deserves a promotion or demotion, or who has or hasn’t posted for several weeks. Like a real board game there must be a way for people to be rewarded for participating to the best of their abilities. Points are the way we achieve that in this simulation.

Each log is worth a maximum of 10 points. There is no limit on how many points you may earn in a given space of time (but don't post 400 logs in a day and expect to get a lot of points. Quality counts!). Here is the breakdown of how points are given:

250 + Words: 3 points
Interest : 4 points
Enhancement: 3 points

There are not a lot of requirements in a post, but those three things can cause you to get a lot of points, or few points.
Here is a list of the ranks and how may points you must have to be promoted to them:

Captain:1300
Commander: 900
Lt. Commander:700
Lieutenant: 500
Lt. Junior Grade:300
Ensign: 0

These are the ways you can LOOSE points:

-10: Not posting for 10 days (consecutive)
-10: Not responding to 2nd warning
-200 Not posting for 17 days (consecutive)

If you fall into the negative, you are removed from the simulation permanently. You will not be promoted unless you have at least 1 point over the required amount.

Points are reported to individuals each month. You will be alerted to how many points you have at the appropriate times.

5)Promotions:
Promotions and Demotions are done with precision, and are done regularly when someone has the points. We prefer to do promotions rather than demotions, but...

To receive a promotion, we will evaluate your point record, as well as the posting record and the post evaluations. We check all these things to make sure the person getting a promotion earns it.

We will also demote people if their points fall below the amount for the rank they have. We only will allow you to remain that rank if you have been promoted for a reason. (I.E. Took over command, etc.)

If you would like to request a promotion, please let us know at promotions@bjamess.freeservers.com.
